There was always debates about Alexa rankings importance to any web site and will this ranking have any effect on any web site traffic or search engine rankings, to the extend that recently many web site owners started to become more interested in enhancing their Alexa ranking rather than their Google page rank!

Ironically most of those web site owners knew that Alexa ranking depended so much on the analysis of Alexa toolbar usage, thus Alexa ranking as an evaluation method for any web site was in my humbled opinion quite a weak method.

The good news is that recently Alexa started to re-consider how they calculate the Alexa ranking of any web site when they announced a new method of calculating the Alexa ranking of any web site, which will depend on multiple sources along with the traditional tool bar usage which Alexa didn’t reveal till now. In my humbled opinion way much better than the old tool bar only method which didn’t reflect the truth about the popularity of many websites.

The bad news is that many web sites have dramatically got affected by Alexa new method of calculating the Alexa ranking, even though this might be for those web sites benefit. What we know for sure, is that those changes will be for the web surfer benefit as it will show them more ‘close to reality’ evaluation of the web sites they visit popularity against other web sites.

So was it for good or for worse, I think it is too early to ‘clearly’ judge at least before Alexa reveal the sources they will depend upon in evaluating the ranking of any web site
