Finally the big fuss is over, Microsoft has withdrawn it proposal to acquire Yahoo. Microsoft announced that they were no longer interested in Yahoo after weeks of negiotations and waiting to finalize the deal .This news isn’t a surprise for people who are following the issue from the beginning.
Microsoft withdrawal wasn’t a surprise after raising the bid price to $33 per share followed several attempts from Yahoo board to increase the offer to be in the end thirties per share. Yahoo’s request was denied by Microsoft as they considered the amount per share offered was believed to be a fair market price given Yahoo and overall market conditions.
The one who got smashed by Microsoft withdrawal of proposal was Yahoo themselves. Yahoo board of members thought that Microsoft wanted Yahoo very much that they wouldn’t give up that fast but I think the Microsoft taught them the heavy lesson.
The surprising news that was revealed today by Yahoo (Kept me laughing a while), Yahoo didn’t know that Microsoft is offering $33 per share and they say that they would have accepted the offer if they knew.
I am really wondering about is how they don’t know about the new offer even after it has been published publicly over the internet and was discussed over and over by people interested in this takeover. Don’t they have internet :).
I think the following days will carry a lot of surprises for Yahoo not from outside but from inside .the shareholders (as I really think) will be causing a lot of trouble both privately and in public as the takeover subject has threatened the position of the board after their failure to manage the deal to achieve the highest possible outcome for the shareholders.
The big question is “Did the story end at this point or there will be a sequal “. Days will tell whether Microsoft made a brilliant move to pressure Yahoo into a new deal or the story will really getting more interesting and new bidders will be in the scope!!!!
