Before we can even discuss the benefits of social media marketing we first need to understand just what the heck it is! These days terms such as SEO (Search Engine Optimization), and SMM (Social Media Marketing) are being thrown around and just about nobody knows just exactly what they are. This article won’t get into the whole SEO debate but we will take a look at SMM. SMM in a nutshell is using social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, or Blogger to sell your product or to promote your cause! SMM is less of direct advertising in the form of ads and more in the direction of conversational/word of mouth advertising. If you ask traditional marketers about the importance of effectiveness of SMM you will get the old line that it is unproven or untested. SMM does require some effort and if you don’t understand the pros and cons of SMM before using it you could be disappointed.

There are a few essential things you need to do in order to make SMM work for you:

Let your customers do the work – In an older context it was very important for the seller to communicate with the buyer and “sell” the buyer on the benefits of your product. Many hours could easily be wasted trying to convince potential buyers that your product was the best thing since sliced bread. This is no longer the accepted paradigm. Any successful internet marketer will tell you the most effective strategy is to get your existing customers talking to your prospective customers. I can tell you just how effective this is myself. I have several clients who are my biggest evangelists and bring me more business than I can ever find for myself. Just the other day I was at a meeting of local business owners and when the subject of my business came up (not mine specifically) one of my current customers said very vehemently that if they wanted things done right to come to me. I was a little embarrassed by this since the service I had performed wasn’t that substantial but the end result was I gained five new customers. These were customers that I had to do absolutely nothing to get! By doing a good job on your service or product your customers will promote you better than you can! Conversely if you do a bad job you will lose even more prospective customers because bad news spreads faster and further than good news.

Get people talking – Getting people to start talking isn’t all that difficult. Just suggesting a topic to someone can get a whole conversation going. Try it when you get a chance. It is quite simple to do! The hard part is directing that conversation toward your product or cause. This requires a bit more thought but can be done if you are willing to make the investment. So-called content marketing is using relationships to get your message across. Content marketing uses tools that are already around to people who are interested in hearing from you. By using opt-in services such as blogs, podcasts, videos and vlogs you can broadcast your message to thousands of potential customers. The key is the relationship. Make yourself known on these sites and let people become acquainted with you. Then when they need a product that you sell you are the first person they think of.

Discuss your product in a human voice – this might sound odd but it is very important! The best salespeople in the world are ones that can relate to you in a personal way. They have a story to tell and it draws you in, makes you curious, and makes you more eager to buy. You are asking someone to buy your service or product so be human with them! Good writing skills are important here as you want people to relate to you. Some might call this the snake-oil tactic of selling but it does in fact work! Your customer will respond to an amazing and authentic story faster than one that is filled with simple information. Soothe your potential clients ears!

There is no doubt that SMM requires some effort to actually be effective but it can be very effective if you are willing to invest the time necessary. Think back to some of the things you bought. Did you buy the product that simply listed its specs and was written in a very formal style? Or did you select the product that spoke straight to you? It is more likely you chose the latter, and your customers will too!

Few years ago before cell phones started spreading worldwide and their usage started to multiply rapidly, it often happened that we were standing infront one of those shops display window looking at one of those products which we were considering to buy and suddenly remember that we saw the same exact product on the Internet for a lower price somewhere. At this moment we hoped we had an internet access to search for this product, and see what was the price and where it was sold. We were forced to rush back home and start surfing the web from our PC’s or trying to find a place offering internet connection to connect our laptop to the web

Now, with the incremental increase in cellular phones usage worldwide and with the ability to access the Internet from most cellular and wireless devices, we can easily check for any product, service or anything we want just by few clicks from our cellular phones or wireless devices.

This huge advancement in the wireless technology had paved the path for business owners to start offering their products and services over the wireless network. Based on latest statistics* the estimated number of wireless subscribers will exceed 2 billion users world wide by the end of year 2007, so just imagine how many clients are you loosing each day by not publishing your products and services in the wireless world.

Google has pioneered in the field of mobile search engines by being the first search engine available via wireless devices and started its mobile advertising programs mainly Pay Per Click advertising (PPC) as a beta version and plans to extend it world wide shortly. More search engine are building their mobile search engines to be able to compete in this niche and rapidly growing market.

The wireless search engines spiders are not much different from the web spiders. They follow the same guidelines set by the normal search engines in aspects of ranking and relevancy.

In term of search engine optimization, SEO for mobiles is not this different from the traditional on-site web optimization in terms of using title tags, description tags , keywords tags, keywords rich content.

Search engine optimization for Mobiles faces two major problems:

1.Design : Web sites should be designed using XHTML 1.0 or WML 2.0 and to be compatible with W3C accessibility guidelines that allows all wireless devices users to view your web site correctly regardless of the type of the hand set used.

2.Space : Search engine optimization specialist has to use short and precise title, description, keywords, contents, anchors which represents the major challenge for optimization.

One major fact to be considered with designing both wireless and web sites is to provide the visitors with what they are looking for with a well organized and accessible site. This fact is critical to the success of any business whether it is online or wireless.

This similarity encouraged many SEO specialist to add SEO for mobile to their list of services.

How to submit your website to the wireless world:

For now, you have to submit your web site to the wireless world search engines in order to know that your web site exists and get spidered by the wireless world search engines.

The following links show you where you can submit your mobile site for wireless search engines:

When Google purchased Blogger some years ago, a new order in search engine optimization (SEO) emerged – and that order is ‘blogs SEO.’ Blogs are now considered to be one of the most effective ways not only of discussing products and services, but also of increasing the search engine visibility of sites. But how will blogs SEO boost your sales and improve your search engine rankings? Read on to find out.

The edge of blogs

Blogs may seem simple enough to do, and you are right. When you know how to use it, it just might become one of your most precious marketing and SEO tools.

Blogs have evolved form being chiefly personal or political into high commercial and corporate, and this is precisely why blogs SEO is quickly becoming a very important aspect of web campaigns. Why are blogs such hits? Here are some reasons:

1. Blogs SEO experts say that blogs are friendly to search engines by design – they are meant to always contain new content that are abundantly interlinked. This certainly explains why there are some very successful blogs that land on the first page of search engine results (for commonly searched terms) without even trying.

2. Blogs are also of the most inexpensive ways to promote a site. Blogs SEO practitioners usually just hire a competent content writer to maintain their blogs (if they cannot do it themselves). Blogs may either be hosted by the website itself of diverted another blog server (which are also usually free of charge).

3. Blogs are also more ‘personal’ and interactive. The very fact that readers can react to the entries posted through the ‘comments’ functionality shows just how powerfully communicative blogs are compared to static content. Blog SEO experts say that businesses should give more premium to the feedback mechanism inherent in blogs – potential and actual customers can readily give comments and suggestions and even ask questions after reading an article. This kind of below-the-line business intelligence is indispensable to any organization of any size.

4. Finally, blogs are fairly easy to maintain. Absolutely anybody can run a blog. It is very easy to update and edit blog text, to add or remove links from its pages, etc. Blog SEO is by far the most easy-to-manage, straightforward, undemanding and cost-effective way of aggressively improving three important things in one go – search engine ranking, online feedback mechanisms and product or service sales.

Google is undoubtedly one of the most-used search engines on the internet these days, and as a website owner, you cannot afford to do without a basic understanding of how your site can make it to its top ranks. Google optimization – is the process of making a website highly-readable for Googlebots and consequently achieve high a Google PageRank – can be confusing if you do not know where to start. Here we explain the fundamental workings of Google optimization and how you can make it work for you.

Google optimization through linking

The main aim of Google optimization is to boost your Google rankings. To do this, you need to underrated Google’s PageRank technology is – the system that determines how significant and popular your website (or a specific page inside it) is. Google PageRank works by reading your links – the more websites and individual web pages link to your site, the more ‘important’ your site is deemed to be.

The key is to therefore build ties with popular websites. Once they link you back, your Google optimization improves a little. Beware, though — do not just link to any site if its content is not even remotely connected to yours. Do not fall into ‘link farming,’ which is overuse of unrelated links for the purpose of artificially jacking up rankings. Google interprets your link farms as ‘spam,’ and as a consequence, your site ranking may plummet down, or worse, you may get reprimanded for it.

Google optimization through keywords

Google’s auto-readers called Googlebots interpret your web content to determine your site’s significance to a specific query. To help the Googlebots ‘read’ your texts, add in relevant, specific and accurate keywords and/or key phrases into your text. In Google optimization, it is important that you repeat these words throughout the article as much as you sensible can. Do not overdo it, though, or Google may interpret it as spam.

Google optimization experts offer advice on what keywords related to your product or services are searched most often by search engine users. Knowing what these high-value keywords and phrases is key to Google optimization – if you effectively incorporate these into your web content, you can improve your Google ranking, target your intended audience, increase traffic, and possibly even boost sales.

Google optimization experts likewise advise that you pay very close attention to the titles you give your content. Google considers the title to be the most important of all the texts, so be sure to include the main keywords or phrases in it. Be cautious of your title’s length though – Google optimization experts say that titles should be less than seven words.

Web content is undoubtedly one of the most important determinants of any site’s success. More than the keyword density, relevance and presentation is key – readers will only come back to your site if they find your articles useful, and is the information you present is easy to read.

Read on for some tips on how you can use your web content for search engine optimization (SEO).

Anatomy of effective web content

Readability. Aim to create web content that is easily readable by both human readers and search engines. To do this, keep sentences short and snappy. Remember that writing for publication is not the same as writing for web – in fact, experts recommend that web content should be at least 50 percent shorter than regular publication content.

It’s a good idea to ‘chunk’ text – that is, break text into short, easily understandable segments for added clarity. Paragraphs should be kept very short, and bullet points should be added whenever necessary. Some experts also advocate for the use of colored and bold texts to emphasize important points. This helps web readers who often just scan the document for the information they need to easily find exactly what it is they are looking for.

Good structure. Forget about saving the best things for last – you are not writing a novel, you are writing web content. The reader (and the search engines) needs to be able to read your main point right at the very start. Keep the most important information at the top, and then just develop it as the web content progresses.

Harmony and architecture. Web content is not exclusive to texts, though, so pay close attention to your images as well. Make sure that the pictures you put are of actual relevance to the corresponding text, and that they are labeled so that search engines can detect them.

Your presentation is just as important – the page should be functional to make navigation intuitive. Even the best-written web content is useless if it is hard to find. Your web content should be organized so that it makes most sense to the users. Add appropriate links for easier referencing – this way, your readers get to jump from one related article to the next without much effort. It is a good idea to develop a ‘flow chart’ even before you start building web content – this will help you define exactly what web content you need, and how they are related to one another.

Remember that an efficient and well-organized web content will make it very hard for your readers not to include you in their list of favorites, and especially harder for search engines not to put you in the high ranks. Look at web content as the heart of your website – do this well, and your site will be a hit in no time.

Still in the dark about search engine optimization? Then you are literally losing thousands of money. If your business website is still not listed within the top 30 search engine rankings, millions of potential buyers do not see how great your products and services are. And your competition – those sites that do use search engine optimization techniques – cash in on your loss.

Why you need search engine optimization

Direct marketing. Studies show that a steadily growing number of consumers use search engines to find and purchase goods. In fact, ninety percent of internet users use a search engine whenever they are online – they search for keywords or phrases that may be directly related to the products or services that you offer.

If you use search engine optimization techniques and successfully position yourself in the top pages, these actively-seeking buyers can easily find you. Your ‘search engine optimized’ site is therefore your gateway to direct sales – position yourself so that the interested buyer sees you, and you will surely make the sale.

Cheap promotion. The higher your search engine rank, the more popular your business website will be. This is the added bonus of using search engine optimization.

So powerful are search engine optimization techniques, in fact, that it was recently found that search engine listings are far more successful in promoting a business than banner or button advertisements. Not only will your market recall your brand faster and retain it longer – you can also inspire purchases more effectively if you use search engine optimization.

Strong online presence. The key to achieving and maintaining high search engine rankings is ongoing search engine optimization maintenance. Remember that competition is stiff –the internet contains more than 2 billion pages, and is growing at the rate of seven million pages per day. By using continuous search engine optimization, you make sure that your target market will always find your site when they look for it.

If you hire a search engine optimization company that can take care of creating content-rich articles, optimized Meta tags, and other search engine optimization essentials, then you can secure a stable online presence and increase your growth potential. Search engine optimization s now a business ‘must’ – if you want your business to stay afloat, simply can’t afford to do without it.

Find a good search engine optimization company to make sure that your business site’s indexing and positioning needs are regularly monitored and improved. It may be the best thing you ever do for your business.
